ROZELLA JOSEPHINE NICHOLS
Rozella Josephine Nichols, age 96 of Polley, rural Gilman, WI passed away on Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Gilman Care Center, Gilman, WI.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilman Funeral Home with Pastor Bradley Carloss officiating. Burial followed in the Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman, WI. Friends and family called on Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Gilman Funeral Chapel, Gilman, WI.
Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.
Rozella was born May 16, 1912, in Polley, WI, the daughter of Clarence and Josephine (Tio) Glidden. She grew up in the Polley area and attended the Polley rural school. She then worked for a time as a housekeeper in Ladysmith, WI. On January 29, 1930, she was united in marriage to Charles M. Nichols and their first home was a railroad boxcar where their oldest child, Bonita, was born. They later moved to Donald and, in 1932, to the Town of Ford where they have resided since. Rozella also worked as a school bus driver, for Black River Industries, at the Oakbrook Nursing Home in Thorp, WI, plus as a farmer’s wife for 72 years. When a car tuned into the driveway, she could have a meal on the table by the time the company came into the house. She was known as the "Grandma on the hill who baked cookies."
Rozella is survived by her children: Bonita Mrock of Lansing, IL, Clarence (Darlene) Nichols & Leonard (Minnie) Nichols both of Gilman, WI; 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; one daughter, Karlean; granddaughter, Jackie Magnusen; four brothers: Leo, Richard, Vernon, & Clarence Glidden, and son-in-law, Bob Mrock.
