Mildred M. Van Den Heuvel, age 86, of 415 Madison St. Stanley, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley, WI.

A Christian Burial Mass was held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, WI with Fr. Robert Nelson officiating. Burial followed in the parish cemetery with Military Graveside Rites preformed by the Thorp American Legion Cecil Tormey Post #118. Friends and family called from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning prior to service time.

Plombon Funeral Service of Stanley, WI assisted the family with arrangements.

Mildred was born March 1, 1922 in the Town of Worden, Clark County, WI, the daughter of Paul & Elizabeth (Peetz) Haase. She grew up in the Town of Worden and graduated from Stanley High School. For a short time she worked in Chippewa Falls, and then enlisted in the Navy WAVES for three years, serving her country during WWII. After her discharge, she returned to this area and was united in marriage to Ervin Van Den Heuvel on June 5, 1948 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Stanley, WI. She and Ervin resided in Stanley all of their lives with Millie working at the Meznarich Bakery, volunteering at Victory Memorial Hospital as a Gray Lady, and was a life long member of St. Ann’s - Holy Family Catholic Church, belonging to the Catholic Women’s Club and was a Sunshine Lady for 27 years in the PCCW. She was also an active member of the Thorp American Legion Cecil Tormey Post #118. In her spare time Millie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidering, playing cards and she was an avid baseball fan.

Millie is survived by one brother, Paul Haase of Owen, WI, plus many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ervin in 1999, two brothers, Joseph & Bernard, & sister-in-law Loretta Haase.
