Marsh, Judge Albert J. (1856 - 12 March 1946)

Judge A. J. Marsh of Eau Claire died Tuesday, March 12 at the age of 89. He was the brother of W. J. Marsh of Neillsville, who is now the last of a family of nine.

Judge Marsh was born in New York in 1856, and was brought by his parents to Sparta in 1861. The family moved to Black River Falls in 1865. There Albert Marsh graduated from high school, worked in a dry goods store and studied law. He was admitted to the Bar of Jackson County in 1877 and was graduated from the law school of the University of Wisconsin in 1881.

The young lawyer went to Eau Claire and began to practice. He was named city attorney in 1883, and was elected municipal judge in 1886, serving four years. At the conclusion of this service he devoted himself to private practice, specializing in the handling of estates.

Albert Marsh married Ida Schaeffer in 1896. She died December 11, 1941. There were no children.

Judge Marsh’s final sickness lasted more than five months, during which his brother Will was in constant attendance upon him.
