Gassen, Carl Stephen Sr. (3 February 1892 - 26 March 1946)

Funeral services for Carl Stephen Gassen, Sr., 54, will be conducted Friday morning, March 29, 1946 from the Georgas Funeral Home and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. J. A. Biegley will officiate. Burial will be made in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home. Death came Tuesday morning at the family home on South Grand Ave.

Mr. Gassen made welding his lifelong occupation. He came to Neillsville in 1926 and located where the B & F Shop now stands. Prior to taking up residence in Neillsville he served an apprenticeship as a welder in Richland Center. He received his education in welding at the Michigan Auto School at Detroit, Mich. Mr. Gassen built the present welding shop on Grand Avenue and Seventh Street in 1936. He retired from active work in May, 1944.

He was born at Ithaca, Wis., February 3, 1892, to Matt and Anna Koch Gassen. He received his early education at Ithaca.

On May 14, 1917, he was married at Detroit, Mich., to Anna Frances Delahanty. Four children were born to them, all of whom survive. The children are: Carl, Jr., a student at Stout Institute, Menomonie; Mrs. Joseph (Catherine) Davis, Neillsville; Mrs. Ralph (Annabelle) Bauer, Neillsville; Mrs. Robert (Mary Ellen) Robinson, Wisconsin Rapids. He is also survived by his widow, three brothers, Matt of Sparta; Joseph of North Bend; George of Bloomer, one sister, Mrs. Mollie Zwicker of Richland Center; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Gassen was a member of the Catholic Holy Name Society, Modern Woodmen of America and the Moose Lodge.
