THE CANDYMAKER DIES
Herman J. Endres, Neillsville’s only professional candymaker, was interred in the Neillsville Cemetery Wednesday after-noon, after final rites at the Lowe Funeral Home. He will lie alone. If he had relatives, they were distant and not known here.
Herman Endres came to Neillsville in 1934. He had worked as a candymaker in Wausau for 29 years, and was there a friend of Arthur K. Dern. So, when Mr. Dern came to Neillsville, Herman presently came along. He was seen about the bakery and on warm evenings sat out front. He lived at the John Apfel home on South Hewett. He told little about himself, but, Mr. Dern believes that his father, mother and a sister died many years ago. Herman, learned candy making in Milwaukee, and went from there to Wausau. Up to the time of his final illness, Herman’s chief complaint in Neillsville was that they rationed sugar against him and limited his activities.
