Meacham, Vera (? - 14 April 1946)
Mrs. Vera Ure Meacham, daughter of the late George A. Ure of Neillsville, died Sunday, April 14, (1946), at Madison.
The Christian Science service, held last Tuesday, was attended by Mrs. Ure of Neillsville, her stepmother, and by her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Ure of Neillsville.
She is survived also by her husband, E. R. Meacham of the Wisconsin Power and Light Co., and by a sister, Mrs. Vivian Seltretch of Bremerton, Wash.
Mrs. Meacham was a woman of extensive education and broad activity. Born in Neillsville, she attended high school in Menomonie and majored in English in Hamline University, St. Paul, where she received a bachelor’s degree in 1911 and a master’s degree three years later. She taught school at Webster, N.D. She married Mr. Meacham in 1917, and they went to Madison in 1919.
Mrs. Meacham had long been active in the Madison chapter of the American Association of University Women. For some time prior to her death she had been director of the Madison Emergency Housing Center. She did free lance writing for various household magazines. She was 57 when she died.
