Kernz, Donald Joseph (19 May 1943 - 6 September 1946)

Funeral services for Donald Joseph Kernz, three-year-old son of Joseph and Rica West Kernz, Town of Grant, were held Monday morning, September 9, (1946) at the Cole-Schiller Funeral Home and at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Rev. John Pritzl, M. A. officiating. Burial took place in the parish cemetery.

Donald was born May 19, 1943, at Neillsville, and died September 6, 1946, at the Neillsville Hospital, where he had been a patient only a few days. He had been ill of the rare disease leukemia for several months and his parents had taken him to Eau Claire and Madison hospitals for treatment and blood transfusions.

Donald is survived by his parents and three grandparents, George West of the Town of Grant, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kernz, Sr., Town of York.

Mrs. Kernz brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Smith, Milwaukee, and Tony and Steve Kovack of Rauch, Minn., were here for the funeral services.

Pallbearers were six boys from St. Mary’s school: Iva and Laverne Schmitt, Donald Miller, Robert Langreck, Louis Kessler and Fred Dux.
