Walker, Jane L. (19 JUN 1878 - 30 DEC 1946)
Mrs. Bert Walker, 68, passed away Dec. 30, 1946 at 7 a.m., at the hospital in Marshfield, where she underwent a major operation a few weeks previously.
Jane Louise Haehlen was born in a suburb of London, England, June 19, 1878, the daughter of Gottlieb and Marcia Haehlen. She came with her parents to the United States when she was seven years old. The family settled at Monroe, Wis., and here she attended the public schools and graduated from high school in 1898. She taught in the rural schools near Monroe until her marriage to Bert Wilson Walker Oct. 24, 1901.
After residing on a farm near that city for three years, Mr. and Mrs. Walker came to Clark county and settled on a farm near Owen in 1905. from there they moved to a farm in the town of York in 1919, where they have resided.
Just previous to her illness they had sold the home farm to their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bender, and had lived in their apartment in the village just one week when she became ill.
Mrs. Walter was an active worker in the York Methodist Church organizations. For several years she served as superintendent of the Sunday school, was a leader of the Youth Fellowship group, and a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society.
She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Violet, Mrs. Harold Bender, and Ethyl, Mrs. Lloyd Vandeberg; two grandchildren, Janet and Phillip Poziombka; two brothers, Charles G. Haehlen and Phil Haehlen, both of West Allis, and a sister, Mrs. William Schultz, Ashland.
Burial took place in the York Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Emil Korth, Jesse Mortimer, Horace Vandeberg, Walter Rowe, Loren Hales and Melford Williams.
Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Haehlen and Phil Haehlen, West Allis; Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Walker, La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. William Schultz, Ashland; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Vandeberg, Menominee; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Soper, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bather and Joe Gessler, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wren, Mrs. Louis Frederickson, Mt. Horeb; Mrs. Jack Mason, Verona; Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Fritz, Dalton….(the rest of my copy was cut off)
