At 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, April 19, 1947, Leo C. Roehl, son of Mrs. Clara Roehl, Chili (Clark Co., Wis.), claimed as his bride Verna E. Grobe, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Grobe, Chili. The ceremony was performed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chili, under an arch covered with ferns and jonquils, banked with two huge baskets of calla lilies and jonquils and other plants and two bouquets of red roses and white jonquils on the altar. The Rev. William A. Lauterbach read the marriage vows.
Mrs. Harold Montag, Chili, presided at the organ and played the accompaniment for Mrs. Gerald Dankemeyer, Neillsville, and Mrs. Lyle Doehr, Granton, who sang.
Attendants were Miss Esther Grottke, friends of the bride, as maid of honor, Clifford Roehl, cousin of the groom, best man, Delores Peterson, cousin of the bride, as bridesmaid, and Clare Schlinsog, friends of the groom, as groomsman. Ushers were Gerald Nelson and Stanley Madler.
The bride wore a white marquisette gown with lace inserts, styled with a gathered bodice sweetheart neckline and full puffed sleeves, with long white gloves and a fingertip veil edged with lace caught to a beaded headdress. Her bouquet of calla lilies was tied with white satin ribbon. She wore earrings and a necklace set with an onyx, gift of the groom.
At 4 o’clock dinner was served to 115 guests at the Chili Hall, which carried out a color scheme of white, aqua and yellow. The bride’s table had a large wedding cake and white tapers.
Table waiters were schoolmates of the bride: Evelyn Weigel, Stevens Point; Marie Fischer, Marshfield; Doris Ellis, Auburndale; Margie Luchterhand, Marshfield; Norman Barth, Granton; Sonie Seefeldt, Chili.
Out of town guests at the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Herb Garbisch and family, eagle River; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lustig and family, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Russel Roehl and family, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Green, Stevens Point; Rev. and Mrs. William A. Lauterbach and family, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Roehl and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Roehl and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Dankemeyer, Neillsville.
In the evening a dance was given at the Granton Hall.
When the couple left on their wedding trip the bride wore a rose wool dress with white accessories.
After May 1 the couple will be at home to friends at the Joe Reichert farm near Chili.
