Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Ghent, 64; were held Sunday at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church following brief services at the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. N. J. Dechant officiated. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery. Mrs. Ghent died Aug. 1, 1 947, at her home on North Hewett St., after an illness of many months.
Sophie Charlotte Wendt, daughter of Fred and Mary (Handke) Wendt, was born Oct. 30, 1882, in Cataract, Monroe Co., Wis., and spent her early life there. She came with her parents to Clark County when she was a young woman. On July 24, 1901, she married in Neillsville to Henry Ghent, and they lived in Cataract until 32 years ago, when they returned to Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), where he became associated with the late Herman Korman in the manufacture of wagons and sleighs, and also kept a blacksmith shop.
She is survived by her husband and three sisters. The sisters are: Anna, Mrs. William Neville, Sr., Neillsville; Laura, Mrs. Evan Hatton, Greenwood; and Mrs. Clara Lastofka, Minneapolis. Two brothers, William and Fred Wendt, and two sisters, Louella Lingl, preceded her in death. One brother died in infancy.
Pallbearers were Jame Neville, Nick Schaefel, Albert Holt, Gus Deutsch, Albert Kuehling and Robert Thompson. Flower ladies were: Velma Lingl, Eva Wendt and Betty Hatton, Mrs. Elmer tenner and Mrs. Arnold Tenner, all nieces of Mrs. Ghent, and Mrs. James Paulus. The church choir sang, "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me: and "Nearer My God to Thee;, both of which had been request by the deceased.
Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral included: Mrs. Ed Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Tenner, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sanford, Mrs. Lena Flood, Mrs. Fred Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hanson and Mrs. Emma Morrow of Sparta; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Ghent, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ghent of Melrose; Mrs. Amelia Puls, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Puls, Mrs. Theresa Boisen, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Brown of Cataract; Mr. and Mrs. George Phelps, LaCrosse; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schnell and family, Kendall; Mrs. Wayne Huber, Bangor; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Tenner, Black River Falls; Mrs. Clara Lastofka, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Evan Hatton and family, greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Wendt, Fairchild; Miss Velma Lingl and Tom Lingl, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hoff and Mrs. William Hoff, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Laffe, Taylor; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Michels, Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Nickels, Granton.
