Wiersig, Ewald R. (2 June 1879 - 22 June 1956)

Ewald R. Wiersig, well known farmer of the town of Hull, died at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital, Friday, June 22, at 3:30 A.M., complications following surgery being the cause of his death. He had been ill since June 11.

Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran church at Abbotsford Sunday afternoon, Rev. F. H. Sprengler officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Winfred Norman, Hubert and Dr. Donald Wiersig, Walter Runzheimer and Reuben Hass, all nephews of the deceased. Flowers were carried by grand daughters - Patricia and Carol Wiersig and Gloria and Sharon Wellman. "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "Heaven is My Home" were sung by Dorothy Muriel, Marilyn and Marjorie Kaiser.

Mr. Wiersig was born in Sherman Center, Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, on June 2, 1879, thus reaching the age of 77 years and 20 days. He came to this locality in 1905 and engaged in farming. He married Emma Hass on April 20, 1912, who died August 17, 1932. A daughter also preceded him in death on September 19, 1937.

Surviving are five children, Harold Wiersig, Reinhardt Wiersig, Mrs. Elmer (Ella) Wellman, Mrs. Leonhard (Hilda) Dommer and Mrs. Richard (Olga) Behrens, all of Colby; four brothers and one sister, Ed Wiersig of Elkhart Lake, Julius Wiersig of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Henry Runzheimer of Colby, Walter Wiersig of Colby and Rudolph Wiersig of Colby, 17 grand children.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Herman and Tillie Hass, Mrs. Anna Kolell, Mr. and Mrs. John Schallou, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Weber, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weber, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapp, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Weller, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wellman, all of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Frank and Mrs. Art Boehm of Spencer, Mrs. Louise Kuse and Harry Kuse of Aurburndale, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Carolfi and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Leick and family of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Runzheimer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Kuse and family, Mrs. Art Mauer and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hoernke of Edgar, Ed Wiersig of Elkhart Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Wiersig of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Johnson of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meinke of Unity and a host of relatives and friends from Colby, Abbotsford and surrounding communities.

The deceased was well-liked and respected by many friends and neighbors of this community. He was especially well indoctrinated in the teachings of his church and was known for living and standing up for their principles all his life.
