Brooks, Charles E (? - 9 February 1948)

Charles E. Brooks, 88, a former resident of the town of York, died February 9, (1948), in Fresno, Cal., where he has resided for several years. While living here Mr. Brooks was engaged in farming and for many years was a rural school teacher. He also served on the Granton school board for a number of years. He was a member of the Neillsville Lodge I.O.O.F. and kept in touch with the order after moving to California. On annual homecoming day in the lodge, the members could count on a cheery letter from Charley Brooks.

Mr. Brooks led an active life and was usually in good health until about Thanksgiving Day last year. He became ill at that time and failed rapidly thereafter.

He is survived by three daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The daughters are Mrs. Hazel Rodell of Minneapolis, Pearl Brooks, who taught for a number of years in Hawaii and is now teaching in Fresno, and Mrs. Lillian Holmes of Fresno.

Funeral services and burial were in Fresno. Mrs. Rodell was in Fresno at the time of her father’s death.
