Reunion, Maier Family (2008)

The 13th Annual Family Reunion of the John and Helen Maier family was held at the Thorp City Park on Saturday July 26th.

Starting at noon, the descendants arrived from as far away as Hartford, Connecticut, but most were from Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Festivities opened with a welcome from Norm, invocation followed by Ken and remembering the deceased members Ed, Jerry and Len Maier. Eli Grajkowski played taps. Sue Friedmann (Norm’s daughter) as Mistress of Ceremonies introduced the Maier grandchildren who introduced their families.

The families represented were Marge Sonnentag - Thorp, Merce Borton - Eau Claire, Norm Maier - Brookfield, Jack Maier - Milwaukee and Ken Maier - Green Bay. All of the Maier children were born on a farm just outside of Thorp.

Following the meal (cooks were Larry and Terry Maier) a short business meeting was held. Then there was music played by Marge and Eli. Trivia and the annual children’s PiÒata were fun for all. Norm, Mary, Sue and Sharon Powell along with their family served as hosts for the 2008 reunion. Jack and Myrna Maier will host the 2009 reunion.
