Wegner, Bernita (Honored - 1984)

Bernita Wegner was honored on Tuesday evening, September 11, at Woman of the Year Banquet by the Neillsville Business and Professional Women’s Club. The gala was held at Fannie’s Supper Club.

Wegner was honored for her involvement in both her nursing profession and with Boy Scouting and other community organizations.

Master of ceremonies for the Wegner honors was Howie Sturtz. Invocation was offered by the Rev. Joseph Henseler and Ruby Meihack served as the club collect.

Others on the program were Helen Ouimette, BPW president; Bob Johnson, representing the Neillsville City Council; and a barbershop singing group composed of Jane Kessler, Kris Herbrand and Michelle Wilcox, accompanied by Joyce Wilcox.

Bragg, Cheryl (29 September 1984)

Cheryl Bragg and David Stedman were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon, September 29, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. The Revs. Paul Forde of Calvary and Marvin Rose of La Crosse officiated. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. David Bragg, Rt. 5 Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Stedman, Fort Atkinson.

Music at the service was offered by Debbie McComas, Joan Bertina and John Stagnel.

Matron of honor was Susan Erickson, the bride’s sister of Eau Claire. She was joined by Luann Erickson, the bride’s sister of Neillsville, and Tina Daniels, the bride’s niece from Neillsville. Best man was Tim Johnson of Fort Atkinson. He was joined by Kyle Borland, a friend of the groom from Madison; and Dale Erickson, the bride’s nephew of Neillsville. Ushering were Dean Dahnert of Fort Atkinson and Ernest Erickson, Neillsville. Ring bearer was Jason Dahnert, the groom’s nephew of Fort Atkinson.

The bride chose a lace gown with tiers of cascading ruffles that formed a chapel-length train. Her matching hat carried a fingertip-length veil, and she carried a fan of lavender and white silk flowers. Her attendants wore lavender, chiffon gowns.

Following the service, a reception and dance was held at Fannie’s Supper Club, Neillsville.

The couple will make their home in Port Edwards. The new Mrs. Stedman is a 1979 graduate of Neillsville High School and in 1983 from UW-Stevens Point. She is employed as an elementary teacher. Her husband is a 1979 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School and in 1984 from UW-Stevens Point. He is a band teacher at Port Edwards High School.

Elmhorst, Debra Jane (1 September 1984)

Debra Jane Elmhorst and Jeffrey Wayne Clemens were united in marriage on Saturday late afternoon, September 1, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. The nuptials were officiated by the Rev. Paul Forde of Calvary and the Rev. Wally Anderson of Neillsville’s Living Hope Evangelical Free Church. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. William Elmhorst, Rt. 4 Neillsville and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clemens, 16 Huron St., Neillsville.

Music at the service was offered by Debbie Hanchek, David Skiff and Midge Anderson.

Serving as maid of honor was Tracy Ziegler, a Madison friend of the bride. She was joined by Sandy Neville-Wagner, a friend; Cheryl Clemons, the groom’s sister, and Rhonda Elmhorst, the bride’s sister. All are from Neillsville. Susan Elmhorst, the bride’s sister was flower girl.

Best man was Jeff Klieforth, a friend of the groom from Neillsville. He was joined by David Gearing, a friend from Hatfield, William Elmhorst, Jr., the bride’s brother of Neillsville; and Keith Clemens, the groom’s brother of Neillsville. Ushering were the bride’s brother Anthony Elmhorst and friend Scott Schoenherr; both are from Neillsville.

The bride chose an ivory satin gown with re-embroidered lace yoke, satin peplum and with flower and pearl applique and chapel-length train. She carried a freshly picked bouquet of white roses. Her attendants wore burgundy gowns of satin, which featured V-necklines and rose trim at the waists. They carried bouquets similar to the bride’s. The groom and his attendants were attired in classic gray, cut-a-way tuxedos.

Following the service a reception was held in the church and dance was held at Fannie’s Supper Club. The couple announced that they would be taking a honeymoon to Northern Wisconsin.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Clemens will be making their home in Tomah. Both are graduates of Neillsville High School. She also graduated with an associate degree in accounting from District I Tech-Eau Claire. He earned a bachelor of business administration degree from UW-Eau Claire and is assistant manager of Mega Foods in Tomah.

Gade, Peggy Jo (18 August 1984)

The Rev. Richard Sorenson officiated at the August 18 wedding of Peggy Jo Gade and Tad Allen Gardner. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood was the site for the nuptials. Parents of the couple are Arvin and Lorna Gade, Rt. 3 Greenwood, and Irene Gardner, Rt. 2 Spencer, and the late Melvin Gardner.

Darla Rueth and Patti Nickel offered special music for the service.

Matron of honor was Patti Knoll, the bride’s sister of Greenwood. She was joined by Pamela Schultz, the bride’s sister of Spencer; Tammi Hendrickson, a friend from Greenwood; Kim Bare, a friend from Marshfield; and Kelly Gardner, the groom’s sister of Spencer. Flower girl was Jessica Schultz, the bride’s niece of Spencer.

Bestman was Paul Rueth, the groom’s brother-in-law of Loyal. He was joined by Pat Kaiser and Rick Nelson, both friends from Loyal; Jay Gardner, the groom’s brother of Spencer; and Scott Schultz, the bride’s brother-in-law of Spencer. Ushering were Lon Knoll, the bride’s brother-in-law of Greenwood; and Miten Malon, a friend of the groom from Loyal. Ring bearer was Kip Gardner, the groom’s brother of Spencer.

The bride chose an organza gown with dripped shoulder bodice accented with Chantilly lace and cathedral-length train and matching derby hat. She carried a bouquet of butterfly orchids, stephanotis and ivy. Her attendants wore orchid organza gowns and carried flower and bow adorned parasols. The groom was attired in a white tailed tuxedo; his attendants wore gray suits.

Following the service, a reception, dinner and dance was held at the Loyal American Legion Hall. The couple announced that they would be taking a wedding trip at a later date.

The bride is a 1982 graduate of Greenwood High School and in 1983 from Mid-State Tech. She is a pharmacy technician at the Marshfield Shopko. He is a 1982 graduate of Loyal High School and is employed by Smith’s Feeds of Loyal. The couple will make their home at rural Loyal.

Hollar, Mary Lou (15 September 1984)

Mary Lou Hollar of Whitehall and Charles F. Kugel of 308 Oak St., Neillsville, were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon, September 15, in Milladore. The Rev. John Wisneski officiated at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church rites. Parents of the couple are John and Norita Hollar of Milladore and Francis and Alice Kugel of Shawano.

Kathy Slipek of Abbotsford and Shelly Kieffer of Auburndale offered music for the service.

Serving as maid of honor was Carol Hollar, the bride’s sister of Milladore. She was joined by Anne Bruening, a friend from Milladore; Liz Rauenbuehler, a friend from Milwaukee; and Denice Hollar, a sister from Bloomer.

Best man was Frank Kugel, the groom’s brother of Shawano. He was joined by Andy Kugel, another brother from Shawano; John Slipek, a friend from Abbotsford; and Larry Ruemmele, a friend from Hudson. Ushering were Michael Hollar, a bride’s brother of Milladore; and William Ecke, a brother-in-law from Shawano.

The bride made her own gown. It was a poly-satin and featured puffed organza sleeves which were fitted at the elbows, a Princess Anne neckline, Venetian lace, pearled buttons and a southern-style hat. She carried a bouquet of stephanotis, miniature carnations, roses and ivy. Her attendants wore gowns they made themselves. They were of point-dispirit burgundy overlay with taffeta burgundy undergarments, highlighted by Cumber-bands of taffeta. They carried bouquets of peppermint carnations, roses and ribbons and sported silk flowers in their hair. The groom and his attendants were attired in three-piece gray suits.

Following the service a reception and dance was held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church hall in Sigel. The couple announced wedding trip plans to Northern Michigan.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Kugel will make their home in Neillsville. She is a 1984 graduate of UW-River Falls in agricultural business and is employed as a loan officer at the Whitehall office of the Federal Land Bank. He is a 1980 graduate of the same college and is employed by PCA in Neillsville.

Barbara J. Klein and Brent D. Jewett were married on September 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated. Parents of the couple are Jim and Karen Klein, Rt. 1 Neillsville, and Marvin and Gloria Jewett, Merrill.

Maid of honor was Sherry Kren of Neillsville. She was joined by Chris Klein, Barb Bryan and Jane Linster, all of Neillsville, and Stacie Boe of Sparta. Kelly Klein was flowergirl. Bestman was Brian Jewett of Merrill. He was joined by Terry Marty, Paul Klein and Russell Opelt, all of Neillsville; and Tom Veit of Maquoketa, Iowa. John Klein was server. Ushering were Jeff Urlaub and Scott Opelt, both of Neillsville.

The bride chose her mother’s Chantilly lace wedding gown. It was of floor length and featured a scalloped neckline with sequin trim and bouffant skirt. She wore an illusion veil and seed pearl trimmed headpiece. Her attendants wore pink taffeta dresses.

Following the wedding, a reception and dance was held at the Neillsville American Legion Hall.

Both the bride and groom are graduates of Neillsville High School. He is employed at the Pine River Dairy Co-op in Merrill. The couple will make their home in Merrill.

Trybula, Kathryn (22 September 1984)

Kathryn Trybula of rural Greenwood and William L. Lang of Marshfield were united in marriage at the Thorp Methodist Church on Saturday, September 22. The Rev. Norbert Miller of Greenwood’s Grace United Methodist Church officiated.

Diane Berdan, a friend from Marshfield, served as matron of honor. Fred Letvinuck, a friend from Greenwood, was best man. The usher was Bobbi Jo Truse, the bride’s sister from Thorp. Flower girl was Same Jean Trybula, the bride’s daughter.

Music at the service was offered by Marcy Larson and Judy Poppe. Following the service, a dinner was held at the Thorpedo Restaurant.

The new Mrs. Lang is a 1975 graduate of Thorp High School and is employed by the Thorp Care Center. The groom is a 1970 graduate of Owen-Withee High School and is employed by Marawood Structures.
