Married by the Rev. Edmund Klimek and the Rev. R. James Larsen at the Sacred
Heart Chapel at Eau Claire, Saturday, October 15, 1977 were Marlene M. Schelling
and Peter W. Beck, Jr. The couple are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Noel E.
Schelling, Abbotsford and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Beck, Sr., Eau Claire.
The bride was given in marriage by her father during the 7 p.m. ceremony, for
which Ray Sauter was the organist.
For the occasion the bride wore an empire style ivory gown of organza trimmed
with Alencon lace. The neckline, bishop sleeves and chapel train were lace
trimmed and a Camelot headpiece secured her long mantilla, which was edged with
matching lace. She carried a bouquet of gardenias and stephanotis.
Serving as matron of honor was Mrs. Thomas Adams, Rapid City, South Dakota,
sister of the bride, and bridesmaids were Mrs. Dennis Schelling, Abbotsford,
Mrs. Richard Gilbertson, Lindenhurst, Illinois, and Mrs. Charles Leonard,
Durham, New Hampshire.
They wore rust colored formals with accordion pleated skirts accented with sheer
capes of the same color and carried bouquets of bronze chrysanthemums and orange
straw flowers with craton leaves.
Completing the wedding entourage were Philip Ocks, Pocatello, Idaho, best man,
and the groomsmen, John Proctor, La Crosse, Denis Schelling, Abbotsford, and Dr.
Richard Gilbertson, Lindenhurst, Illinois. Ring bearer was Craig Schelling.
Jon Derge, Rockford, Illinois, and William Schildt, Eau Claire ushered the
guests to their seats.
The bride is a 1966 graduate of Abbotsford High School, and a 1970 graduate of
the UW-Eau Claire, and is presently a head nurse at Luther Hospital in Eau
Claire.
Her husband, a graduate of Memorial High School, is attending UW-Eau Claire and
is also employed at Luther Hospital.
Following a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin, the couple will be making their
home at 2917 Windsor Drove, Eau Claire.

Koerner, William, Sr. (21 Apr 1887 – 14 Oct 1977)
William Koerner, Sr., brother of George Koerner, Curtiss, died at Lakeland
Hospital, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, October 14, 1977. He was 90 years old.
Services were held Monday, October 17 at the Walworth Funeral Home and burial
was in the Walworth Cemetery.
Mr. Koerner was born April 21, 1887 in Curtiss, and lived in the Curtiss and
Dorchester area before moving to the Walworth-Fontana area in 1939.
He retired from the Fontana Elementary School as custodian in 1966 and was a
member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Walworth.
Survivors include his wife, Odelia, who he married in 1912 at Dorchester; four
sons, Hebert, Delavan, LaVern, Fontana, William, Walworth, and Lyle, Hazlehurst;
three daughters, Mrs. Martha Johnson, Rochelle, Illinois, Mrs. Gertrude Fritsch
and Mrs. Lorraine Kerwin, Sheboygan; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren;
one sister, Anna Trowbridge, Milladore, and a brother, Erwin, Owen.
He was preceded in death by a son, one brother and three sisters.
Bio: Gruba, Clement – Car Destroyed by Fire (30 Dec

A car and tools were destroyed by fire on a combination garage and machine shed
on the farm of Clement Gruba, 5 miles West on County N, and one-half mile south
Monday morning.
However, a granary full of oats next to the machine shed was saved by the Thorp
Rural Fire Department, which received the call at 10:30 a.m.
It is reported the cause of the fire was a wood stove.

Airman Dennis F. Erickson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Freddy Erickson, Route 2, Withee,
has been assigned to Sheppard AFB, Texas after completing Air Force Basic
Training.
During his six weeks at the Air Training Command’s Lackland AFB, Texas, he
studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs, and received special
instruction in human relations.
The airman has been assigned to the Technical Training Center at Sheppard for
specialized training in the civil engineering field.
Airman Erickson is a 1973 graduate of Owen-Withee High School in Owen,
Wisconsin.

Strugala, John (19 Dec 1898? – 14 Dec 1974)
John Strugala, 85, of Antigo, died Saturday night, December 14, 1974 at the
Langlade County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 19, 1898, the son of Thomas and
Mary Strugala. He moved to the Thorp area in his youth, and later operated a
farm near Wausau for a number of years. He came to Antigo in 1965 and resided
here since.
A veteran of World War I, Mr. Strugala served with the U.S. Army from April 20,
1917 to February 1919.
Survivors include a brother, Joseph of Owen, three sisters, Mrs. Verna Slupski,
Stanley, Mrs. Victoria Janega, Green Bay, and Mrs. Catherine Burss, Thorp, and
nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mr. Strugala were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church, Antigo, with the Rev. Ronald Colombo officiating. Burial was in
the Veteran’s Circle of the Antigo Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gerald Callahan, Tony Cahak, Julius Jilek, Jack Jilek, Anton
Jilek and Erenst Pitts.
Relatives that attended the funeral were: Mrs. Catherine Burss, Thorp, Mrs.
Verna Slupski, Stanley, and Mr. and Mrs. Albin Berdal, Montello, Wisconsin.

When Thorp won over Cornell’s basketball squad here Tuesday night by a score of
69 – 52, it was Coach Jack Tetzner’s 300th winning game.
We would like to offer the Thorp Courier’s congratulations at this time to the
finest Coach in the Cloverbelt League.
Although we may be one of the smallest schools in the Cloverbelt League, our
record with Coach Tetzner has ben in the past, one of the winningest.
Congratulations again Coach.

Susan Marie, to Donald A. Rudnick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rudnick, Thorp.
Miss Wittek is a 1973 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, and a 1974 graduate
of City College of Cosmetology, Eau Claire. She is employed at Joy’s Beauty
Boutique, Owen. Her fiancé is a 197? graduate of Gilman High School. He is
presently employed at Budrus (?) Elevator, and is also engaged in farming.
A July 26th 1975 wedding is being planned.
