LOYAL -- Bernice E. Volovsek, 78, of Loyal, formerly of Willard, died at her home Sunday, July 27, 2008.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. The Rev. Joseph Follmar will officiate and burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Volovsek, Jay Volovsek, Matthew Hahn, Jeanie Klinke, Tom Egesdal, Don A. Garner and Aaron Garner.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Bernice Evelyn Schnitzler was born July 27, 1930, in Marshfield, the daughter of Roman and Eleanor (Bores) Schnitzler. She was raised and received her education in Marshfield, graduating from Marshfield High School in 1948. After graduation, Bernice worked at Wing's Drug Store, in Marshfield, for two years. She was united in marriage to William J. Volovsek on Aug. 26, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield.
They farmed in the Willard area until 1969, at which time they sold the farm and moved to a home near North Mound. Bernice worked at Suda's Store in Willard as a clerk for many years. She later worked at the Greenwood High School for the Clark County Green Thumb program. Bernice resided in the Willard area until the death of her husband, Willie, on Nov. 16, 2002. She then moved to Loyal in May 2003, and has resided there until her death.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal, and its PCCW, and was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard, and its CCW. Bernice had many interests, but especially enjoyed traveling with her husband, making cakes for weddings, birthdays and special occasions, bowling, going to casinos, dancing, laughter, playing practical jokes and mock weddings.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Diane Klinke of Marshfield, Nancy Jo (Don) Garner of Kaukauna, and Shari (Duane) Hahn of Elkhorn; one daughter-in-law, Rosie Volovsek of Marshfield; seven grandchildren, Jay (Jennifer) Volovsek, Nick Volovsek, Jeanie Klinke, Matthew Hahn, Don Garner, Aaron (Teri) Garner and Kerry (Tom) Egesdal; seven great-grandchildren, Zach Shepard, Alexis Van Schyndel, Paige Garner, Hayley Gess, Joseph Klinke, Jackson Egesdal and Lucas Egesdal; eight siblings, Don (Gloria) Schnitzler of Marshfield, Eileen Funk of Kaukauna, Marlene Kennedy of Wisconsin Rapids, Sr. Carol Schnitzler of Loyal, Charlie (Bev) Schnitzler of Marshfield, Tom (Barb) Schnitzler of Marshfield, Janice (Frank) Pekol of Neillsville and Mary Jayne (Paul) Zimmerman of Marshfield; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie; one son, Michael J. Volovsek; one great-grandson: Sidney Garner; one sister, Joanne Schnitzler; and one brother, John "Jack" Schnitzler.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given for a memorial fund that will be established at a later date.
