Wagner, Matilda (? - 20 NOV 1942)
ROSS—A great many people from this surrounding county have visited the little glass church, near Cataract, with its Jacob’s well, its Garden of Eden, its wedding cake, and gate to paradise, and many more structures, all built of glass, a great work of art, which took many years and much labor to erect. The writer had the pleasure of visiting the place four years ago and hearing the history of its erection from Mrs. Matilda Wagner herself, of how many different places she and her husband got the material and how many years it took to build it. Owing to Mrs. Wagner’s failing health, the place was not open for visitors the past summer.
The following is taken from the LaCrosse Tribune:
"SPARTA, Wis., Nov. 20—(Special) Mrs. Matilda Wagner, widow of the late Paul Wagner, who built the little glass church near Cataract, died at 7:05 today in St. Mary’s hospital here, where she had been confined since Monday. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. F. C. Boller officiating. Short services at the little glass church will be held prior to burial in the cemetery near her home.
