Shupe, Lydia E. (20 AUG 1879 - 24 NOV 1942)

Mrs. Edmund Shupe, 63, who suffered a stroke Thursday night, passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Young, four miles northeast of Loyal, at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Mrs. Shupe (Lydia Ellen Smith) was born on Aug. 20, 1879, on a farm near Greenwood. Here she spent her early childhood.

On Dec. 25, 1898, she was united in marriage to Edmund Shupe. They lived on a farm in the town of Beaver until Apr. 8, 1925, when they moved to their home in the village of Loyal. Mr. Shute died on May 25, 1931.

On Aug. 15, 1940, Mrs. Shupe suffered a paralytic stroke, and she made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Young, in the town of Beaver. While there, her health was poor, and on Nov. 19 she suffered a stroke which was fatal.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Young, and two grandsons, Robert and Dale Young. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Davis of Granton, Mrs. Libbie Vine of Greenwood and Mrs. Belle Davis of Portland, Ore., and by three brothers, William Smith of Milwaukee and Mark and Samuel Smith of Greenwood. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held from the house at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, and at 2 p.m. from the Loyal Methodist church, with interment in the Loyal cemetery. The Rev. M. E. Taylor officiated.

Pallbearers were Herman Litka, Herman Wolfe, Charles Wehling, Adolph Gretzner, Peter Schoch and Hugo Darton.

Mrs. Alex Mrotek, Mrs. Claude Catlin, Mrs. Arthur Darton, Mrs. Adolph Gretzner and Mrs. Peter Schoch were in charge of the flowers.

Relatives from away attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harley Vine, Mrs. Elizabeth Vine, Gerald Steffen, Mr. and Mrs. George Braun and Sam Smith, all of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lawrence, Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Stillman Huntly, Argyle.

Because of bad roads some of the relatives were unable to attend.
