Hein, John (? - Oct. 1947)
John Hein, a former Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, died late in October in Minneapolis, where he had been living for several years. Burial was in the family lot at Tony, a town in Rusk County, founded by the Hein family and named for Tony Hein, a brother.
John Hein was a son of the late Thomas Hein, an old time lumberman and businessman of this area. At one time he had a sawmill at Heintown. In Neillsville, the family resided in the house on North Hewett St. now owned by George Prochazka.
Mr. Hein is survived by his wife, the former Carry Dignin of Neillsville, and three sons, Walter, who is at present in a veteran’s hospital in Seattle, Paul, who resides in Chicago, and Nicholas of Grand Rapids, Minn.. Mrs. Hein is living at the home of her son, Nick. Also surviving are a sister, Miss Clara Hein of St. Petersburg, Fla., and two brothers, Pete of Tony and Frank of Ladysmith.

John Hein is Taken
Minneapolis, Jan. 27.--John Hein, who is wanted in this city on the charge of
forging the name of F. W. Schmidt to a mortgage deed, was captured yesterday at
Castle, N. D. and will be brought to this city at once. Hein's wife has been
under arrest since Dec. 14, and has been confined in the county jail with her
three-year-old child, being unable to furnish the $2,000 bond demanded. Hein, it
will be remembered, secured from Schmidt deeds and abstracts to valuable farm
property at Medicine Lake, under the pretense of making a sale. In reality he
mortgaged the property to Burns Bros. for $2,500, representing himself to be Mr.
Schmidt and having his wife make affidavit that she was Mrs. Schmidt and sign
the deeds. Hein received $500 in each and a team of horses, and would have
received the balance had not the trick been discovered through the lapsing of
some fire insurance on the farm buildings.
