*Carnegie, Ida #2 (6 SEP 1905)
On Wednesday evening, Sept. 6th, 1905, at Milwaukee, Maj. J. W. Hommel of this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) and Mrs. Ida Carnagie of Portage were united in marriage, this quiet wedding in a distant city enabling them to surprise their friends here right up to the queen’s taste. They arrived home Saturday on the early morning train from Wausau, where they attended the fair, in which the major, as president of the Clark Co., Fair Society, was interested.
Both are well known in military and social circles in Portage and Neillsville, and throughout the state. The bride is popular in society and the groom is one of our leading citizens, being both city marshal and street commissioner, having done much to bring Neillsville up to its present metropolitan development. He as captain of Co. A was on the American expedition to Puerto Rico during the Spanish war, and though he didn’t get a chance to fight, performed important service in the island. He is major of the 3rd Battalion of the Third Regt., W. N. G.
They are at home at Major Hommel’s home on Grand Avenue, where their many friends have been heaping congratulations upon them since their return.
