Seeger, Mr. and Mrs. Herman (Golden - 3 November 1970)
Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Seeger entertained close friends and relatives at their home in Loyal in
honor of his parents’ Golden wedding anniversary last Saturday and Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Seeger were married at Kennan on November 3, 1920, at
the home of the bride. After their marriage they farmed at Kennan and Prentice
before moving to Nekoosa in 1965. The former Hazel Mabie was a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. S. Mabie, who lived northeast of Loyal. As a young girl she kept
house for her father after the death of her mother.
Herman Seeger was a
sawyer in the logging business around Hawkins and Kennan. The Mabie family had
moved to Kennan in 1919 where the young couple met and were married the
following year. Mr. Seeger served in the army of occupation in Germany and
France during World War I and was honorable discharged as a corporal. At
Prentice he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Highlighting
the events Sunday was a mock wedding put on by the grandnieces and nephews. Two
of Mrs. Seeger’s sisters, Mrs. Arthur Swantes of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mrs.
Henry Birkholz of Long Prairie, Minn., phoned to give their greetings as they
were unable to attend in person.
On Saturday all nine of their children,
31 of the 32 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren gathered for a picnic
honoring the event. The celebration was held now as it was more convenient than
it would have been in November. Only one grandson was absent. He is Pfc. Robert
Sager, Jr., who is stationed in Okinawa.
Their children are: Mrs. Ed
(Esther) Peters, Zion, Ill.; Robert Sager, Virginia Beach, Va.; Alton Seeger,
Jump River; Mrs. William (Edna) Wulf, Nekoosa; Mrs. Herbert (Beatrice) Klante,
Birnamwood; Fred Seeger, Lake City, Minn.; Mrs. Dwight (Maxine) Zuisberg,
Chicago, Ill.; Walter Seeger, Loyal; and Mrs. Alfred (Helen) Saler, Hubertus.
Both of the Seeger’s are active. He enjoys reading and following
football games, while she does sewing and spends time with the flowers in their
yard.
