Langteau, Jenny (23 Nov. 1914 - 10 Aug. 2008)
Jennie Zenker-Langteau, 93, Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center, Medford, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center, Medford, where she had resided for the past six months.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the United Church of Christ, Medford. Rev. Cathy Hinman will preside. Interment will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.
Jennie was born November 23, 1914, at Independence, Iowa.
She attended Iowa elementary schools and was a 1933 graduate of Medford High School.
On June 6, 1936, she married Elmer Zenker in Medford. Elmer preceded her in death August 24, 1980.
On Sep 10, 1988, she married Roy Langteau at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, Wis. Roy preceded her in death January 7, 2000.
After her education, she worked as a bookkeeper in the Medford area. After her marriage, they farmed in the town of Little Black for many years. While farming she also worked as a cook for the Liberty Elementary School and later at Memorial Hospital in Medford. When the new hospital was built, she became the dietary supervisor until her retirement in 1980.
Jennie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, knitting, canning vegetables, garage sales and playing cards. She also enjoyed volunteering with activities at the Colby Nursing Home.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Medford, Colby Senior Citizens and the Taylor County Homemakers Club.
Jennie is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Jim) Metz, Medford; 6 granddaughters; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; 1 brother Frank (Alice) Roberts, Medford; and three sisters, Dorothy Knipshield, Florida, Edna Perrine, Milwaukee and Eleanor Smith, Kansas City.
She is predeceased in death by her parents, Charles Roberts and Mary (Domer); one son, Ervin Zenker in 1987; two brothers, George and Tom Roberts; and two sisters, Pearl O’Brien and Verna Smith.
Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
