Scheel, Ralph R. Jr. (28 MAR 1917 - 21 AUG 2008)

Ralph R. Scheel Jr., 91, Owen, formerly of Loyal and Neillsville, died on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Private family services will be held at a later date, with burial in the Loyal City Cemetery.

Ralph Robert Scheel Jr. was born on March 28, 1917, in the town of Beaver, to Ralph Sr. and Elizabeth (nee Thomas) Scheel. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Sunnyside School. When he was 16 years old, he moved to Minnesota and worked as a farmhand, until moving to Oconomowoc in 1942. He married Dorothy Williams on Oct. 19, 1943. They resided in Oconomowoc, where he continued to work on area farms until moving to Loyal in 1948. In 1960, they bought a farm in Neillsville and farmed until retiring in 1985. After their retirement, they moved to Curtiss where they lived for several years. Most recently, he lived in Owen until entering the Clark County Health Care Center in November 2006. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and had many interests, but especially enjoyed woodworking, building chairs, games and puzzles for children. He loved horses, cows and raising rabbits.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Owen; 11 children, Larry (Donna) Scheel, Brookfield, Dale Scheel, Marshfield, Robert Scheel, Pittsville, Ralph Scheel lll, Granton, Audrey (Michael) Berger, Medford, Henry (Margaret) Scheel, Marshfield, Faith (Duane) Boie, Stanley, Arthur (Marlene) Scheel, Granton, Peter (Jane) Scheel, Marshfield, Joy (Vince) Canfield, Neillsville, and Betty Lou Scheel, Tomah; 52 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Frantom, Wheaton, Ill., and Joyce Prior, Mundelein, Ill.; three brothers, Walter Scheel, Waukesha, Gary (Mavis) Scheel, Genesee Depot, and Wayne (Pat) Scheel, Greenwood; five daughters-in-law, Cindy Keller, Lublin, Linda Scheel, Chili, Carol Gurney, Waukesha, Polly Moede, Wisconsin Rapids, and Sharon Hiles, Neillsville; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, James Scheel; one daughter, Julie Ann Scheel; one grandson, Troy Scheel; two sisters, Beth Boyette and Naomi Colby; and two brothers, Art Scheel and Murray Scheel.
