Bower, Alma Martha(October 24, 1916 - August 23, 2008)
Alma M. Bower, age 91, of Richland Center died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Pine Valley Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 24, 1916 at home in Longwood Township, Clark County, Wisconsin the daughter of Henry & Emma (Awe) Burmester. She graduated from Greenwood High School. On July 25, 1937 she married George Martin Bower and he preceded her in death on August 16, 1978. George & Alma moved from Merrill, Wisconsin, to the Southwest in 1964 seeking a better climate for George’s health. After a few years in Arizona, they settled in Blythe, California. In 1985 Alma moved from Blythe, California to Richland Center, Wisconsin. In Richland Center, Alma enjoyed outings with three friends, Anita, Ardis, and Arlene. They called themselves the Four A’s. Alma was an avid stamper, who prepared dozens of care letters for members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Alma suffered a stroke in April 2005 and had resided at Pine Valley ever since. Survivors include 2 children, Jerry (Donna) Bower of Richland Center; Leonard (special friend M.D. Kirby) Bower of Scottsdale, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Paul (Elaine) Bower of Deerfield, WI; Craig (Marilyn) Bower of Cottage Grove, WI; Eric (Jill) Bower of Barneveld; Glenn Bower of Barneveld; 6 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren; A sister, Leona Himes of Owen, WI; Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, George Burmester; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Bower.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Diane Clark officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Friends may call on Saturday at church from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM. Memorials may be given to Trinity UMC, Walk with G.R.A.C.E., or the Richland County Historical Society.
