Gates, Loren #2 (1824 - 12 DEC 1904)

The venerable patriarch of Christie (Clark Co., Wis.), Loren Gates, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 1904, at about 10 a.m. He was over 80 years of age, and with his snow white hair and beard was a benevolent appearing man, and one whom all respected. At the old Christie home he lived for many years. There his first wife died many years ago, and some years later he married Mrs. Clark, who has since been a great help and comfort to him, in his declining years and enfeebled condition. By blood or marriage he was at one time related to a majority of the people living the tote road between Neillsville and Greenwood. He was a plain spoken, honest man, punctilious to a degree in keeping engagements. He had looked for the end for some time, and was ready to enter into the eternal sleep.

The funeral was held Wednesday at Christie, Rev. W. T. Hendren officiating, interment at Neillsville.
