Krahn honored for employee achievement
Four employees of Saint Joseph’s Hospital recently receive this year’s Mother Frances Streitel Award.
The award recognizes employee achievements which best exemplify the four core values of Service, Presence, Justice and Vision, in the mission statement of Ministry Health Care.
Receiving the awards this year were Mary Decker, Dorchester, a pediatric registered nurse; Stephen Tully, Arpin, a registered nurse on the 3 North cardiac unit; Jeff Josephson, Marshfield, a staff pharmacist; and Fred Krahn Jr., Loyal, a maintenance employee in facilities management.
Krahn took the time out to help a friend and co-worker. Chris Lein had worked at Saint Joseph’s Hospital for 17 years. He was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease in the summer of 2006, and died about a year later.
When Krahn heard about Chris’ illness, he helped Chris and his wife with some remodeling of their house so Chris could get around easier. He made time on Wednesdays to visit Chris. Because Chris loved motorcycle riding, Fred got a motorcycle with a sidecar so he was able to put Chris and his wife in the sidecar and take them for rides.
