Opelt, Dorothy Mary (22 August 1919 - 30 August 2008)
Dorothy Opelt, 89, of Neillsville died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.
Dorothy Mary Opelt was born at home August 22, 1919, in Neillsville, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Mueller) Langreck. She attended the Reed School. She was united in marriage to Robert Opelt September 26, 1944, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. They farmed for many years in the Town of Pine Valley and raised eight children. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Dorothy was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Circle. She was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW), serving all offices and named a 2006 Senior Honoree. She loved animals, especially cats and chickens, working in the barn and farm work, flowers and gardening, fishing and cooking and baking pies.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Pat (David) Eisentraut, Neillsville, Gerald (Carol) Opelt, Neillsville, Kathy (Don) Herbel, Green Bay, Dennis (Jean) Opelt, De Pere, Janet (Galen) Gurney, Neillsville, Tom Opelt, Neillsville, Wayne (Connie) Opelt, Neillsville, and Larry (Tina) Opelt, Neillsville; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Marie Resong, Neillsville, Harold (Dorothy) Langreck, Neillsville, Sister Niva Langreck and Sister Lillia Langreck, both of Milwaukee, and Bob (Mary Ann) Langreck of Neillsville.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bethany Opelt; a great-granddaughter, Amaya Schleis; a brother Herb and her parents.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Woodrow H. Pace. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville. Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary Service Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and will also be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Casketbearers are her grandchildren: David Eisentraut, Jon Herbel, Brad Opelt, Mike Gurney, Ben Opelt, Isaac Opelt, Jeffrey Opelt and Jill Fox.
The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Dorothy’s family with funeral arrangements.
