Schwickrath, Joseph (1862 - 29 June 1948)

Joseph Schwickrath, 86, of Neillsville, died June 29, 1948, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, after an illness of two months.

Funeral services were held July 3, at 8:30 a.m. in the Georgas Funeral Home and at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. John Pritzl officiating. Interment was made in the Neillsville Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Frank Reinhard, William Neville, Otto Schultz, John Mertee, Nolie Blau and Henry Wasserberger. From out of town came Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bean and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Bukhardt, Mrs. Phillip Reichert, all of Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. William Gessert, Mrs. Lee Hartnet, Mr. and Mrs. Bodendorfer, all of Marshfield.

Mr. Schwickrath was born in Germany in 1862 and came to America at the age of seventeen. He worked at stone masonry and at farming in Clark County for 60 years. In 1903, he married Barbara Gessert of Neillsville. Mrs. Schwickrath died at the birth of their first child, a daughter, now Mrs. Charles Bean of Stratford, and Mr. Schwickrath never remarried. Mrs. Bean and her five sons survive Mr. Schwickrath.
