Gergen, Elwood R. (1871 - 22 August 1948)

Elwood R. Gergen, 77, of Neillsville, died Sunday, August 22, (1948), in the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had been since April, 1948. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, from the Georgas Funeral Home, with the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Gergen was born in the town of Grant in 1871, and was a lifetime resident of Clark County. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War, having served as a private in the 3rd Regimental Infantry, Wisconsin Volunteers, from April 28, 1896, to January 4, 1899. He was in action in Porto Rico from July 20 to October 28, 1899.

Mr. Gergen never married, and is survived by one brother, Vernie, of Neillsville and a sister (balance of obit was missing).
