Rossman, Fred A. (1862 - 24 October 1948)
Fred A. Rossman, Sr., 86, died Sunday, October 24, (1948), in his Neillsville apartment. Funeral arrangements were made for Tuesday at 2:00 o’clock in the Georgas Funeral Home. Burial took place in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Rossman was born in Plymouth, Wis., in 1862. He came to Clark County with his parents when he was eight, and was educated in rural schools. His family lived in Neillsville for a time, and then in Loyal. Mr. Rossman returned to Neillsville in 1880, the same year that he married Miss Caroline Kuntz of Marshfield. He worked for a while for Herman Yankee, doing delivery work. He joined the Neillsville city police force in 1924, worked as a policeman for five years and as chief for 15 years, retiring from active duty in 1944.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows for 21 years, and was also a member of the Moose Lodge.
His wife died in May, 1945. He is survived by nine children: Fred A. Jr., of Altoona; Oscar of California; Mrs. William (Alta) Shumway of Beloit; Mrs. Milton (Nina) Hoidal of Kalispell, Mont.; Ernest of Havre, Mont.; Mrs. Melvin (Katie) Nelson of Orfordville; Mrs. Kelley (Berdine) Amato of Berwyn, Ill.; Donald, of Seattle, Wash.; and Floyd, of Neillsville. Twenty five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren survive him.
Three sons, Leo, Irving, and Harry, predeceased him, as did his four brothers and two sisters.
