Greenwood Gleanings

Louise Fricke visited at Neillsville over Sunday.

John Memhard is spending a few days with his family in Chicago.

H. and L. Churchill of Elkhorn made a short visit with B. F. Ketchpaw of Hemlock Tuesday.

Grace Oelig, who has been under Dr. Kennedy’s care at Neillsville, is home this week.

Rev. Henry Bruengger preached at Spokeville Sunday.

Mrs. B. P. Churchill visited with her parents at Neillsville the first of the week.

B. Tupper and family moved their household goods into the rooms over Datcher’s feed store, Monday last.

Mrs. P. F. Lantz and son, Bradley, were down from Longwood Monday to make glad the heart of the printer man.

W. A. Kingmann of Thorp was in the city Monday.

Robert Mundt and W. D. Stewart, of Chili, were looking over Greenwood attractions Monday.

Chas. Armstrong was down from Withee Sunday.

L. Sperbeck transacted business at Eau Claire Tuesday.

Lizzie Bredlau returned Monday evening from her home near Loyal, where she has been spending the past two weeks.

A. C. Holmes is hauling some of the old fashioned pine down to Jordan’s mill. They are splendid appearing logs, coming from the Huntzicker estate place which Mr. Holmes has charge of.

Tony Burnett was up from the Hub Sunday and Monday.

W. B Mohr, of Boyd, was registered at the Greenwood House Saturday.

Mrs. W. B. Cresswell came from Loyal Saturday for a couple of days’ visit at the Greenwood House.

Dr. Miller, the dentist, of Eau Claire, will be at the Commercial House on Feb. 9th, one day only –today.

F. J. Klinke and wife were county seat visitors Saturday.

John A. Thomas of Marshfield did business in this city Wednesday.

J. F. Seidl of Marshfield, traveling agent for the Milwaukee Harvester Co., was doing business with our local agents here several days this week.

Herbert Clute was over from Greenwood Thursday…M. H. Wright of Greenwood did business in Loyal Thurday-Chronicle.

Dr. W. B. Cresswell will be in Greenwood hereafter the first ten days of every month. Better wait for him.

Mesdames Charles Servaty and Minnie Woodward were up from Neillsville to visit their mother, Mrs. Wm Friese.

John A. Jacobson was at Fairchild a few days last week doing some decorating for the Big Store there.

Mrs. T. A. Anderson of Watertown, S.D., accompanied by her daughter, Flossie, is visiting at the home of her father, John Francis, on the Loyal road.

George Drinkwine and wife are not satisfied to be merely producers of honey of a high grade, but they are trying their hand at something new and they think they have something sweeter than even triple extract of honey-a rollicking baby boy, born Thursday, Feb. 1. This is No. 1 and congratulations are therefore in order.

Mrs. A. A. Graves and daughter, Miss Maud, of Loyal, will depart on Tuesday of next week for Florida to spend the winter in the southern climate. They will be joined at Stevens Point by Mrs. Booth and daughter, formerly of Colby, and the ladies will make the journey together.-Marshfield Times.

W. L. Roberts of the senior class in McCormick’s Theological Seminary at Chicago, will preach both morning and evening at the Presbyterian church in Greenwood, on Sunday, Feb. 11. He will also preach at the Chapel in the afternoon of the same day. Mr. Roberts comes well recommended and his visit on next Sabbath may result in his settlement over this church about the first of May.

Willie Touburen, working in Buker’s camp, had the misfortune Saturday to drive the blade of his ax into his right ankle, making a mean gash the full width of the blade. Dr. Conroy dressed the wound and reports the case doing as well as can be expected.

Dennis Tourigny and Madeline Charles were married Jan. 1, 1900, at the home of Thos. Hitchcock, in Washburn Township. Mr. Hitchcock called at the Times office last Saturday and so stated; hence this announcement. The contracting parties have been keeping pretty quiet about it, but it is out now, and congratulations are in order, also cigars and a new happy home- Neillsville Times.

The cold weather reminds us that several subscribers have asked if they might pay their subscriptions in wood. They may if they will bring it at once.

Robert Teatz, of Lynn, visited with H. H. Hartson and family Thursday this week.

Oscar Fricke and wife, accompanied by Mrs. Zetche, visited their camp last Sunday.

Abe Sanford and wife are rejoicing over the first born son, which arrived at their home Monday, Feb 5.

Pa Wallis is carrying around two broken ribs, sustained a week ago by falling onto the corner of his sleigh while getting out of a snowdrift.

Mrs. Carl Helwig returned Wednesday morning to her home near Alma Center.

Andy Wilson spent a day or two this week at Christie. His hand which became so sore as to compel him to quit the woods, is getting much better.

Clare Hunt went to Milwaukee Wednesday to attend the Implement Dealers, Convention, with is held there annually.

E. T. Burch, of the Greenwood Merchantile Company, reports that their cash sales for January, 1900, surpassed their sales for January, a year ago. This speaks well, when it is borne in mind that a large new store has come in during the year to claim a generous share of the trade. It shows that a growing patronage is coming this way, or that times are so much better that cash is more plentiful, or it shows that both conditions prevail.

The meeting of the Clark County Agricultural Society met in annual session Jan. 20, but there being only a small number present the meeting adjourned until Saturday, Jan. 27. At that meeting, the following officers were elected: President, Robert Howard; Vice Pres., C. A. Ackerman; Sec., R. W. Balch; Treas., G. L. Redmond; Director for three years, Ezra Thompkins. Little if any other business was transacted-Rep. and Press.

The ice harvest is being gathered in as fast as Chas. Pratt can get it out of the river. The ice is of splendid quality this year, giving about 22 inches of as clear ice as one would care to see floating in a lemonade tub.

The friends of Rev. Jas. T. Ford will be glad to learn that he is meeting with flattering success in his work at Warren, Ill. A week ago Sunday, they dedicated a new brick church costing $5000 all free from debt.

W. H. Rossman wishes to announce that he has reduced the price of shoeing to 15 cents for setting 35 cents for putting on new shoes.

Carrie Gemmeke is in Omaha, Neb., having accompanied Mrs. Jas. Stevens thither. She will work there for the present.

J. W. Stanton received a telegram Monday forenoon from Ashland stating that his son Elmer was very low and asking that he come up at once. Mr. Howe took him at once to Withee, where he caught connections at Abbottsford for Ashland. Another telegram Tuesday morning, however, announced that the son died Monday afternoon. Tyuphoid fever was the cause. He will be buried at Mondovi.
