Hackel, William J. (2 OCT 1928 - 30 AUG 2013)

William J. Hackel, 84, Edgar, was born to eternal life Friday August 30, 2013 at Golden Living/Continental Manor, Abbotsford, under the care of Aseracare Hospice.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Weds. September 4, 2013, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Daniel Hackel will preside and Rev. Charles Hiebl will be the homilist.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Visitation will continue on Weds. from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

William J. Hackel, 84, Edgar, was born to eternal life Friday August 30, 2013 at Golden Living/Continental Manor, Abbotsford, under the care of Aseracare Hospice.

He was born October 2, 1928, in the town of Holton, son of the late William A. and Emma L. (Miller) Hackel. On October 20, 1953, he married Delores Hiebl at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Milan. She survives.

For a few years, Bill was a milk hauler with a route that included the Athens, Milan and Goodrich areas. For most of his working life, he and Delores owned and operated a dairy farm in the township of Wien until the time they retired and moved off the farm in 2005.

He was an avid outdoorsman and among his favorite things to do were hunting, and working with dogs as houndsman. William was a faithful, devoted Christian serving in several capacities through the years at his parish, St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. He was best remembered as a beloved husband, loving father and a grandpa that loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Hackel, Edgar, 12 children, Mark (Nancy) Hackel, Fenwood, Gregory (Mary) Hackel, Hamburg, Barbara Hackel, Cary, IL, Jon (Nenette) Hackel, Edgar, Jerome (Jacqueline) Hackel, Marathon, Ruth (Robert Sr.) Koss, Baraboo, Clarice (John) Welbes, Athens, Paul (Mary) Hackel, Marathon, Phillip (Catherine) Hackel, Wausau, Rev. Daniel Hackel, Colby, Angela (Chris) Harvey, Savage, MN, Cindy Hackel, Denver, 30 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, 11 siblings, Marilyn Whalen, Naomi (Donald) Smith, Bernard Hackel, Imogene (Dale) Apfelbeck, Ervin Hackel, Ronald Hackel, Lawrence Hackel, Eleanore (Dale) Chambers, Ralph Hackel, Doreen (Gregory) Mertens and Kenneth (Significant other, Pam) Hackel and a sister-in-law, Victoria Hackel. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph and a sister, Nancy Murray.
