Phaneuf, Bessie (25 FEB 1883 - 16 AUG 1939)
Funeral services for Miss Bessie Claire Phaneuf who died Wednesday, Aug. 16th at Bayfield, were conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Gus Wilhelme, and at two o’clock at the Presbyterian Church.
At the church service conducted by Dr. E. L. Hoover two hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Some Day the Silver Ooyd Will Break" were sang by Mrs. Wm. Berger and Miss Jessie Merrill, accompanied by Mrs. A. J. Folstad.
Those who carried the flowers were three nieces, Miss Avis Phaneuf and the Misses Lorraine and Helen Lundahl. The pallbearers were Axel Johnson, Martin Larson, Arvid Carlson, Albert Nelson, Ed and Albert Leichtnam. Interment was made in the Dorchester Cemetery.
Bessie Claire Phaneuf was born Feb. 25, 1883 at Neenah, Wis. She came to Abbotsford with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Phaneuf, and lived on their farm west of here.
About 25 years ago she went to Chippewa Falls where she was employed at the Northern Colony Training School, being the matron in Building No. 1 there.
In February, Miss Phaneuf was taken to Pure Air Sanitarium at Bayfield for treatment for tuberculosis which she contracted at her work. Her condition was improving when a cerebral hemorrhage suddenly caused her death, Wednesday evening.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Chippewa Falls and belonged to the Wis. Association for State Employees.
The deceased is survived by three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Gust Wilhelme, Mrs. George Lundahl, Gordon Phaneuf, all of Abbotsford; Mrs. Howard Bell, Chippewa Falls, and Charles Phaneuf, Harrington, Wash. Her parents and brother, Frank, preceded her in death.
Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Howard Bell of Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Edgar Jones, Miss Nora Knapp and Mrs. J. Drake, Antigo; Georgeanna and Lorraine Lundahl, Chicago; Mrs. Self, Mrs. Eileen Bellasbach, Mrs. Jensen, Miss Ingham and Miss Klink, employees of the Northern Colony Training School at Chippewa Falls.
