Opelt, Dorothy Mary (22 Aug. 1919 - 30 Aug. 2008)

Dorothy Opelt, 89, of Neillsville died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

Dorothy Mary Opelt was born at home Aug. 22, 1919, in Neillsville to Henry and Mary (Mueller) Langreck. She attended the Reed School. On Sept. 26, 1944, she married Robert Opelt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. They farmed for many years in the town of Pine Valley and raised eight children. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Circle. She was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, serving all offices and named a 2006 Senior Honoree. She loved animals, especially cats and chickens, working in the barn and farm work, flowers and gardening, fishing and cooking and baking pies.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, children Pat (David) Eisentraut of Neillsville, Jerry (Carol) Opelt of Neillsville, Kathy (Don) Herbel of Green Bay, Dennis (Jean) Opelt of DePere, Janet (Galen) Gurney of Neillsville, Tom Opelt of Neillsville, Wayne (Connie) Opelt of Neillsville and Larry (Tina) Opelt of Neillsville; 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is further survived by siblings, Marie Resong of Neillsville, Harold (Dorothy) Langreck of Neillsville, Sister Niva Langreck, Sister Lillia Langreck both of Milwaukee and Bob (Mary Ann) Langreck of Neillsville.

She was preceded in death by granddaughter Bethany Opelt, great- granddaughter Amaya Schleis, brother Herb and her parents.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant will be Rev. Woodrow H. Pace. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville.

Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary Service Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Casket Bearers are her grandchildren, David Eisentraut, Jon Herbel, Brad Opelt, Mike Gurney, Ben Opelt, Isaac Opelt, Jeffrey Opelt and Jill Opelt.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Dorothy's family with Funeral Arrangements.
