Rural School Notes (13 Apr 1916)
A community meeting was
held Friday evening, March 24, in Dist. No. 2, Withee, Miss Isabelle Bast,
principal. A program of regular school work was enjoyed by a good crowd. A
beautiful $75 Victrola was used for the first time. A talk on “The School Today
and Twenty Years Ago” was given by Mr. Mikoianis, the school clerk.
March
31st was Parents’ Day at the Lombard School, Miss Rychwalski and Miss Reisinger,
teachers. Regular classes were held and regular work exhibited. A special effort
was made to demonstrate domestic science and manual training which were
introduced into the school for the first time this year. Excellent work has been
accomplished in these arts, and great interest is being shown by teachers,
patrons and pupils. Articles made by the pupils were auctioned off at the close
of the evening. As a result of the sale, $9.20 was added to the fund which the
school maintains for carrying on this work.
Teachers’ examinations have
been held in Greenwood and Owen during the past two weeks. On April 13, 14 and
15 they will be held in the courthouse in Neillsville, and this will close the
spring series.
Many of the country schools have been closed this week
because of the condition of the roads and the teachers have been enjoying a rest
at their respective homes.
