Rural School Notes (27 Apr 1916)
On
Thursday evening, April 13, the local spelling and arithmetic contests were held
in Jt. Dist. No. 3, towns of Pine Valley and Weston, Miss Ada Quinnell, teacher.
The contests were followed by an informal community gathering, at which a
program of regular school work was rendered. A large number of parents were in
attendance and much interest was shown, especially in the arithmetic games
played by the pupils of the primary form.
A Patron’s Meeting was held in
Dist. No. 5, Hixon, J.H. Fradette, teacher, Friday evening, April 14, at which
an enjoyable program made up of reading work by all the grades and a few
recitations was rendered by the pupils. Initial steps for forming a Boys’ and
Girls’ Pig and Calf Growing Contest were taken and plans laid to procure a
magical lantern and agricultural slides. After the program, lunch baskets were
opened, coffee served, and a social time indulged in by young and old.
Miss Ella Ridderbush and Miss Elsie Nehner, teachers in Dist. No. 1 and Dist.
No. 3, Mayville, respectively, held a community meeting in Dist. No. 3 Friday
evening, April 14. Great interest was exhibited by the patrons.
