Granton (25 Year Reunion - 8 August 1970)

Nine of the 12 members of the class of 1945 of Granton High School and their spouses, met for a reunion Saturday evening. This was the first reunion for the class since their graduation 25 years ago.

The event began with a tour of the Granton Schools, led by Douglas Crandall, one of the school custodians. The tour was followed by a 9 p.m. supper at the Silver Dome Supper Club, near Neillsville.

At the program following, Master of Ceremonies Kenneth Kobs gave recognition to the following: Those who came the longest distance, Elroy Lehman of Dallas, Tx.; and Curtiss Marg of Fort Walton Beach, Fl., virtually tied at approximately 1,300 miles each; least hair, Elroy Lehman (it was decided that Elroy’s mustache and beard should not disqualify him for this honor); most children, Victor McHone and Esther (Pretsch) King, tied with five each; those having grandchildren, Elsie (Spaete) Scholtz, Esther (Pretsch) King and Luella (Fox) Mauritz; married the longest, Laura Mae (Elmhorst) Wegner (1945); and married the most recently, Victor McHone, only member of the class whose children also attended the Granton schools - They are the fourth generation of the family to attend the Granton School.

Mrs. Mida Warlum of Neillsville, one of the teachers present, commented that she is now teaching the children of two of the members, Marie (Daniels) Ratsch and Esther (Pretsch) King, of Neillsville.

The class prophecy was read by Elroy Lehman, and the class Will was read by Kenneth Kobs.

The class members stood, introduced their spouses and gave a brief account of their activities since graduation. The possibility of holding a joint reunion in the future with another class or classes or having another reunion of the class in five years was discussed but no decision was reached.

Those attending the reunion were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Marie Daniels) Ratsch, Mr. and Mrs. Harry (Esther Pretsch) King, and Mr. and Mrs. Elliot (Mida) Warlum, all of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon (Laura Mae Elmhorst) Wegner of Minneapolis, Mn., Mrs. Luella (Fox) Mauritz and friend, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kobs, of Marshfield; Dr. and Mrs. Elroy Lehman of Dallas, Tx.; Lt. Col. And Mrs. Curtiss J. C. Marg of Fort Walton Beach, Fl. Lt. Col. Marg is recetnl6y retired from the army and Dr. Lehman has a farm near Westfield, where he and his family spend their vacations. Mr. and Mrs. Victor McHone of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Arlo (Elsie Spaete) Scholz of Eau Claire; the other teacher attending was Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Wellman of Rock Island, Il.

Letters were read from class members not attending, who were: Mrs. Willard (Patricia Paulson) Rohde of Walla Walla, Wa. Harland Gerber of Neillsville; Dolores Riedel of Waukegan, Il., and from teachers, Mrs. Howard (Adelaide) Linnigan of Minnetonka, Mn. and Mrs. Bernard (Mona Reichert) Yulga of Stevens Point.

Following the program was a social time of visiting and renewing acquaintances. Some of the class members had not seen each other since graduation.

The class flower was the red rose, the class color, blue and white and the class motto was, “The past forever gone, the future still our own.”

The class officers were: Marie Daniels, Pres.; Harland Gerber, Vice Pres.; and Dolores Riedel, secretary treasurer.
