Hilts, Elizabeth A. (30 NOV 1946)
Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Miss Elizabeth A. Hilts, Chicago, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry N. Hilts, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Dr. John A. Simpson, Jr., Chicago, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Simpson, Portland, Ore. The nuptial ceremony was read in the Congregational Church at Owen by the Rev. C. E. Guthrie, Eau Claire.
White tapes in cathedral candelabra and bouquets of long stemmed white chrysanthemums adorned the altar; white bells and satin ribbons marked the pews. Three selections, "I Love Thee," Because," and "The Lord’s Prayer" were sung.
The bride wore her grandmother’s pearls with her white satin wedding gown, which fitted snugly to the waist and buttoned down the back. Long sleeves came to points over the wrists and the bodice was distinguished with a deep yoke of marquisette. The long skirt ended in a peacock train. A coronet of orange blossoms, trimmed with silk braid, held her fingertip veil of white illusion bound with satin.
Miss Patricia Walker, Minneapolis, wearing a yellow nylon taffeta and a headdress of yellow feathers and carrying bronze chrysanthemums, was bridesmaid. Mrs. Eirch Weis, Waukegan, attired in an identical frock in blue taffeta and carrying yellow chrysanthemums, was matron of honor. Barbara Hilts, wearing a pink net over taffeta dress and holding a nosegay of mixed flowers, served as her sister’s junior bridesmaid.
William B. Simpson was his brother’s best man. Ushers were Dr. Truman Kohman and Dr. James Nickson, Chicago.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church parlors for 75 relatives and friends. Later a buffet supper was served at the Hilts home where on Friday evening the rehearsal dinner was held. The church parlors were decorated with white candles and white roses; the home with white tapers and bouquets of white chrysanthemums.
After a week’s honeymoon spent at Lowell Inn, Stillwater, Minn., the young couple will reside at 5536 S. Dorchester Av., Chicago.
Dr. Simpson received his B. A. Degree at Reed College, Portland, Ore., and his M. A. and Ph. D. degrees at New York University, New York City. He is now a research scientist at the University of Chicago, where he is also a member of the faculty and of Nuclear Studies Institute.
Mrs. Simpson was granted her bachelor’s degree from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn., and her master’s from the University of Chicago. She is now educational consultant for Houghton Mifflin Publishing Co., Chicago.
