Helwig, Lawrence (4 September 1902 - 13 November 1970)

Funeral services for Lawrence (Sparkey) Helwig, 68, Neillsville, who died November 13, were held Monday, November 16, at 8 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. D. E. Sprague of the Assembly of God Church officiated. Burial was made Tuesday, November 17, in Resurrection Cemetery at Madison.

Mr. Helwig was born September 4, 1902, at Sullivan, the son of Charles and Louise (Abel) Helwig. He was educated in the Cambridge and Rome (Wisconsin) schools and worked at home as a young man. He operated a tavern in Neillsville until failing health brought about his retirement. Mr. Helwig was married to the former Elizabeth Stewart on May 13, 1943, in Winona, Minn. She preceded him in death in 1966.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Anderson of Clearwater, Fla., Mrs. Rolland (Hazel) Wagner of Madison, and Mrs. Bernard (Isabelle) Pietenpol of Neillsville.
