Podrovitz, Matilda "Tillie" (15 March 1911 - 4 December 2000)

Neillsville- Matilda "Tillie" Podrovitz, 89, of Willard, died at the memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville on Monday, Dec. 4, 2000 at 3:50 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 at Cuddie Funeral Hime in Greenwood. Rev. Mary Ann Conklin will offciate and burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in Willard.

Pallbearers will be Doug Tenut, Nic Smrecek, Erich Smrecek, Ryan Podrovitz, Marcus Smrecek, and Duane Podrovitz. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Matilda Cerne was born on March 15, 1911 in Breezy Hill, Kan. to Michael and Louise (nee Dornik) Cerne. In 1920, her family left Kansas and moved to Willard where they purchased a farm.

On January 4, 1932 she was united in marriage to George Podrovitz in Waukeegan, Ill. The couple lived in Chicago for 10 years before moving to a farm in the Town of Seif, south of Willard. In 1948 they bought a farm, next to Tillies home farm, in the Town of Hendren.

In 1972 they retired, sold the farm and moved into Greenwood. Her husband died on Dec. 19, 1974. She remained in Greenwood until moving to Hometown Apartments in Loyal. There she resided until entering the nursing home in 1991. Tillie was a very kind and loving person who was never demanding or lost her temper. She got along with everyone and will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Mairan (Daniel) Smrecek of Loyal; her son Michael (Kandi) Podrovitz of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren: David Smrecek, Diane (Ray) Tenut, Daniel Smrecek, Dakle (Penny) Smrecek, J. Dawn (Kevin) Ryan-Wallick, Dean Smrecek, Dana Smrecek, Duane (Michelle Zank) Podrovitz, Michelle (George) Brenner and Ryan Podrovitz; 10 great grandchildren; Erich, Marcus, Nic, Cory, Kyle, Lucas and Zachary Smrecek, Doug Tenut, Sierra Ryan-Wallick and Alec Brenner; a sister, Christina Fortuna of Willard and three sisters-in-law, Opal Cerne of Tenn., Katie Plautz of Greenwood and Marie Farrell of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, four brothers, Michael, Joseph, Frank and a brother in infancy; one sister Stephanie Cohara; and a grandson Mark Podrovitz.
