SUN PRAIRIE -- Sharon L. Durst, 71, passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at HospiceCare Inc. in Fitchburg.
She was born March 12, 1937, in Withee and was the daughter of Theodore and Etta (Beverly) Gregory. She married Gerald Durst on June 2, 1954, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal.
Sharon worked for many years for Dane County and retired from the District Attorney's office. She especially enjoyed working for District Attorney Jim Doyle (now Governor). She was a partner with her husband in the Durst Bus Service, providing transportation for special needs children in Sun Prairie since 1965. She was a life member of the Sun Prairie V.F.W. Post 9362 Auxillary (past president), Prairie Riders Snowmobile Club, Mendota Gridiron Club and enjoyed many years with her friends as part of the Wisconsin Cheeseman bowling team. Sharon would like to be remembered as one of the Wisconsin Badgers' biggest fans. She enjoyed many years of travel including all the UW Bowl Games.
She is survived by her children, Greg (Traci Triggs) of Marshall, Teri (Richard) Bedner of Sun Prairie, Sheri (Jay) Hicks of Lodi; five grandchildren, Robby Durst, Jennifer and Christopher Bedner, Brandon and Cassidy Hicks; a sister, Donna (Tom) Froeba of Colby; sisters-in-law, Marcella Baumer of Sun Prairie, Evelyn Milich of Belvidere, Ill., Angie Gregory of Granton; many nieces and nephews; a lifelong special friend, Shirley Benisch; and Peanut, her Pomeranian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993; an infant grandson, Ricky Durst; a brother, Arthur; and a sister, Beverly Beaver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie with The Rev. Brian Dulli presiding. Burial will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.today at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie where a V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary will have a service at 6:30 p.m. A visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.
