Roth, Norman E. (1917 - 8 Oct. 2008)

LOYAL -- Norman E. Roth, 91, of Loyal, entered the fullness of Eternal Life on Oct. 4, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct., 8, 2008, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal. The Very Rev. Woodrow Pace will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Norman's grandchildren, Joseph Roth, Jessica Roth, Matthew Newman, Michael Newman, Justin Lundstrom and Angela Alvarez.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Cuddie Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Norman was born in 1917, in Cadott to Edward and Louise (Roberts) Roth. He graduated from Cadott High School in 1935 and then attended Chippewa Falls Vocational School to study welding and machining, while also helping his parents on their farm. He also took UW college prep courses and UW extension courses. In 1941, he enlisted in the Army-Air Force and attended the Engineering and Technical School at Chanute Field, Ill. He was deployed to Syria with the Ninth Air Force B24 Squadron. In 1945, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In 1946, Norman was united in marriage to Violet Gingras at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott. He and his family moved to Loyal in 1952, where he dairy farmed until 1956. Norman began raising turkeys while also starting Roth Manufacturing Co. on his farm. In 1960 he moved the farm equipment manufacturing business to Loyal. Three sons, Daniel, Thomas and Anthony now operate the business.

Norman was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and its parish council; was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers; the Loyal American Legion Post 175; a founding member of the Loyal Community Park Board; and was an active member of the former Loyal Rotary Club. He also had served as secretary of the Loyal Chamber of Commerce, which named him Citizen of the Year in 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Violet, of Loyal; three daughters, Mary Jo Roth of Plymouth, Minn., Ann (William) Newman of Deerfield, Ill., and Kathleen (James) Lundstrom of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; five sons, Daniel of Loyal, Mark (Lucille) of Marshfield, Joseph (Jean) of Seattle, Wash., Thomas (Christine) of Loyal and Anthony (Joy) of Neillsville; 13 grandchildren; one brother, John (Pat) Roth of Cadott; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Florence Roth, Doris Roth and Edna Woodward; and one brother, Leonard Roth.

The way Norman conducted his life demonstrated he had been gifted with the fruits of the Holy Spirit, especially joy, patience and kindness. He was a man of hope and principal who truly walked his talk.

In lieu of flowers, Norman's family asks that memorials be given to St. Anthony's Catholic School.
