Heikkinen, Rauha (4 MAY 1886 - 17 MAY 1947)

News of the death of Mrs. Hjalmar Heikkinen shocked the community last Saturday evening when it was learned that she had suddenly passed away at her farm home following a stroke. During the early afternoon she had been enjoying herself at one of her favorite spring pastimes of planting flowers about her home, when suddenly stricken.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Owen Finnish Lutheran Church with Rev. Karl Keljo reading the final rites. Her remains were then taken to Virginia, Minn., where services were conducted Wednesday afternoon and burial made in the cemetery at Peyla, Minn.

Mrs. Rauha Heikkinen was born in Finland on May 4, 1886. When a young lady of 28 years of age she came to this country, in 1914, and lived in the town of Vermillion, Minn. For about 25 years. For the past seven years she had made her home in this community, where she won many friends and had been an active member of the Finnish Lutheran Church.

Surviving her are her husband Hjalmar, and three children from a previous marriage, a son Lauri Aalto of Virginia, Minn., two daughters, Mrs. Leonard Johnson and Mrs. Lauri Maki of Vermillion, Minn., and stepchildren, Arvid and Toivo Heikkinen, Owen, Mrs. Wm. Kangas, Withee, Mrs. Aina Markow, Owen, Mrs. Edward Brecke, Dorchester, and Mrs. John Conner, Chicago, Ill., eighteen grandchildren, and one sister and two brothers in Finland.
