Laabs, Vernetta (17 MAY 1947)

Miss Vernetta Laabs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Laabs of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Knecht, of Unity, at 2:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon, May 17, 1947, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, at Colby, Wis., Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiating. The choir sang "O Perfect Love," Mrs. Goetsch accompanist.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin dress, lace trimmed, distinguished with a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves and a long train. Her fingertip veil fell from a rhinestone headdress. She carried a bouquet of white carnations, pale flesh roses and lilies.

Miss Dorine Laabs, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, wore a white taffeta and net frock, with a matching headdress, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Delos Alexander, and Mrs. Richard Witte, Jr., sisters of the groom, and Miss Marilyn Sommers, cousin of the bride. They wore similar dresses to the maid of honor, of white, blue and pink, with matching headdresses, and carried bouquets of pink carnations. The flower girl, Karen Lee Laabs, sister of the bride, was dress in blue, similar to the other attendants, with a matching headdress, and carried a bouquet of white carnations, pale flesh roses and lilies.

Those attending the groom were Marlyn Sommers, cousin of the bride, as best man, and Delos Alexander, and Richard Witte, Jr., brother-in-lasws of the groom, and Leonard Wachsmuth.

Supper was served at the bride’s parents. The house was decorated in white, blue and pink streamers, a large wedding cake centered the table. In the evening a dance was given at the Atwood Hall.

The bride is a graduate of the Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) High School with the class of 1945, and was formerly employed at the Colby Box Factory the past year.

The groom is engaged in farming near Unity, where they will reside.

Goetsch, Mrs. Ernest Borchert, Miss Arlyle Sachse, all of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Knecht, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lulloff and family, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Glenzer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Lulloff, Jr., and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Woik, Mrs. Lydia Laabs, Mrs. Pauline Sommer, Miss Louis Maki, all of Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Knecht, Mr. and Mrs. Delos Alexander, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Witte, Jr., all of Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schuette, John Knecht, of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sommer, Leonard Wachsmuth of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hertz and family, Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ramin, Winona, Minn.; and Ferdinand Laabs, Pocatello, Idaho.
