Kroll, Hazel B. (Jensen) (13 DEC 1921 - 25 AUG 2013)

Hazel B. Kroll, age 91, of Medford, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 25, 2013 at Memorial Health and Rehab Center in Medford. Hazel had been a resident there for the past two and a half years.

Hazel was born on December 13, 1921 in the Town of Hartland, Shawano County, the daughter of the late Melvin and Esther (Beyersdorf) Jensen. Hazel attended country schools and later Shawano High School, graduating in 1939. Following school she had been employed at the United States Post Office in Bonduel.

In her younger years, Hazel worked at Dehn's Ice Cream Parlor in Bonduel, which was attached to her father's barber shop. She was a Sunday school teacher at Friedens Lutheran Church, and during World War II Hazel was a member of the Civilian Defense Unit in Bonduel.

On June 8, 1946, Hazel was united in marriage to Maurice "Maury" Kroll at the Friedens Lutheran Church in Bonduel. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed the Kroll family homestead in the Town of Herman. Hazel worked around the farm and cared for her family.

In 1965, the couple moved to Stetsonville where her husband was hired full time as a Soil Conservationist for Taylor County, a position which he held for eight years. While living in Stetsonville, Hazel was employed at Medford Senior High School as a cook. The couple returned to Shawano in 1973. When they returned to Shawano, Hazel was employed at the Shawano County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff, Matron of the Jail and as a Bailiff. She retired in the mid 1980s. The couple moved back to Medford in 1993 to be close to their children.

Hazel is a current member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford. She, along with her late husband, Maury, are past members of Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Shawano. Hazel's hobbies included camping, sitting by the lake at the couple's cottage in Cecil, as well as Sunday drives with Maury. The couple loved to go out for fish dinners on Friday night. Her husband preceded her in death on July 27, 2009.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Krista (Tim) Ludwig of Eagle River and Karla (Art) Klimpke of Medford; four grandchildren, Steve (Ashley) Ludwig of Verona, Dan (Merideth) Ludwig of Minneapolis, Minn., Beth Ludwig of Chicago, Ill., and Bekah Ludwig of Watertown; a son-in-law, Tom Krebsbach of Medford. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Krebsbach on August 2, 2010.

A memorial service for Hazel Kroll will be held on Friday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at Divine Savior Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Joshua Krieger of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Medford will officiate. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery of Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Divine Savior Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials in the name of Hazel Kroll for the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Medford, or Divine Savior Lutheran Church, Shawano.

Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano is in charge of the service arrangements.
