Severa Muench, 98, Colby, previously from Antigo, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Entombment will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9 - 10 a.m. on Wednesday also at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Severa Muench, a longtime county educator, died Saturday September 7, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. She was 98 years old. She was a longtime resident of Antigo and resided the past three years at the Colby Retirement Community in Colby.

Mrs. Muench was the daughter of Emil and Bessie (Dobberke) Person, she was born on August 13, 1915 in the Town of Upham, Langlade County. Her marriage to Clayton C. Muench took place on June 8, 1946 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1992.

Mrs. Muench graduated from Antigo High School, received her teaching certificate from the Langlade County Normal School, received a degree in elementary education from Stevens Point State University, and certification in Exceptional Education from Oshkosh State University. She retired in 1981, after a forty year teaching career, the last twenty years serving in the Antigo Unified School District.

During her retired years, she was active in Retired Teachers Association, Association of Retirees, Northwoods Lioness, and the Langlade Hospital Auxiliary holding offices and serving on committees in all of them. She also volunteered at CAR.

She traveled extensively in the United States, Canada and Alaska, as well at Europe and Asia. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Antigo.

Survivors include a daughter Carolyn (Ronald) Decker, Dorchester, a son Gary of Antigo and his special friend Joanne Marmes also of Antigo. She is further survived by eight grandchildren Connie Gurtner, Stacey Christianson, Mark Decker, David Decker, Scott Decker, Tina Muench, Tami Muench and Christopher Muench; eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother and sister in infancy, and a brother Melvin who was killed in action in World War II.
