Ila Birdine Schmidt was born on June 8, 1923, in the town of Beaver, to Albert and Blanche (nee Francis) Schmidt. She was raised and educated in Loyal, where she completed her junior year of high school. On Dec. 24, 1941, she married Howard L. Olsen at the Lutheran parsonage in Greenwood. As a young couple, they farmed at various locations in Clark County, finally settling on a farm five miles north of Greenwood in 1950. She returned to school to complete her high school education, and graduated with the class of 1958 from Greenwood High School. They farmed until they retired in December of 1986, and then moved into Greenwood. Her husband passed away on June 30, 1999. She continued to live in Greenwood until June 1, 2005, and has resided at the Golden Living Center in Marshfield the last two years. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and its WELCA, and was a former member of the Clark County Homemakers and the Greenwood Senior Citizens. She had many interests, but especially loved farming and the animals, spending time with her family, sewing, embroidery, quilting, music, playing the accordion and harmonica, baking pies, square dancing and playing bingo.

She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Judy (Dave) Allar, Marshfield, and Donna (Duane) Olson, Greenwood; nine grandchildren, Todd (Terry) Braun, Tammy (Jeff) Redetzke, Dan (Tina) Braun, Shanna (Shawn) Kolberg, Jeff Olson (friend Carrie), Jodi (Tim) Rueth, Jackie Olson, Jennifer Olson and Jeremy Olson (Finance Hannah Miller); 20 great-grandchildren, Logan, McKensie, Aubrie, Alyssa, Devvine, Peyton, Jerren, Nathan, JoHanna, Carsen, Kinzie, Payton Kelsey, Krista, Karterr, Brittany, Ashley, McKaila, Mariah, and Kaden; one sister-in-law, Elaine Schmidt, Monroe; and one brother-in-law, Elmer Luepke, Racine.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Howard; one brother, Harold Schmidt, and one sister, Genevieve Luepke.
