Norks, Frances A. #2 (8 AUG 1930 - 26 OCT 2008)

Frances A. Norks, 78, Greenwood, died on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, surrounded by her husband and family at Just Like Home, Colby, Wis. Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home, Thorp, on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 4-8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary service, and at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp, from 9:30 a.m., until time of services at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Keith Apfelbeck will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery, Thorp.

Frances A. Depa was born on Aug. 8, 1930, in Thorp, to Paul and Anna (nee Posda) Depa. She received her education at Red Brick School, rural Thorp, and graduated from Thorp High School in 1948. After graduating from high school, she moved to Chicago and worked for a short time at Motorola, before pursuing her career as a hair dresser. She married Mike Norks on June 27, 1953, in Chicago. They made their home at the Norks family farm in Greenwood. There, they raised six daughters and one son. She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and its PCCW, a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood and St. Ann’s Society. She loved life and the time spent with her family. She had many interests including gardening, fishing, sewing, board games (especially Scrabble), playing cards, and going to the casinos.

Survivors include her husband, Mike, Greenwood; her children, Nancy (Milton) Cox, Olalla, Wash., Barbara Kaltenbach, Elk Grove, Ill., Sharon (Jeff) Wertepny, Des Plaines, Ill., Karen Connolly, McHenry, Ill., Darlene "Cha" Arndt, Tacoma, Wash., Marlene "Tina" (Dave) Simmons, Chippewa Falls, and Michael Norks, Greenwood; 18 grandchildren; her siblings, Marcella (Ted) Kaszubowski, Thorp, Juliana Wiklanski, Petoskey, Mich., Helen (Walter) Filipek, Niles, Ill., Pauline Andronowitz, Huntington, Conn., Louis (Bernice) Depa, Thorp, Anton (Joanne) Depa, Kenosha, Peter (Alvina) Depa, Stanley, John (Marie) Depa, Niles, Ill., and Joseph (Joan) Depa, St. John, Ind.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three grandchildren, Eric, Nicole, and Melanie Arndt; a son-in law, Patrick Connolly; two brothers, Andrew Depa and Frank Depa; and one sister, Agnes Zieske.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s PCCW.
