Gleanings

Mrs. Jos. Schweiger visited with Loyal friends last Thursday.

Philo Mead visited at Stanley and Marshfield over Sunday and Monday.

J. S. Palmer of Wilcox, was in town over Monday night. He moved his son Levi’s household goods over from Loyal. Mr. Palmer is always a welcomed Greenwood visitor. The only trouble is he does not come often enough.

Mrs. C. P. Hill is visiting her parents, E. T. Burch and wife.

L. J. Riemer and wife were Neillsville visitors Wednesday.

Bob Schofield did business at the "Hub" Saturday.

Wm. Toburen did business at Marshfield Monday.

Sam Johnson visited with friends at Loyal over Sunday.

W. H. Rossman and wife rejoice over the arrival of a young daughter at their home Saturday Morning, March 17.

Mrs. D. J. Tufts of Withee, who has been visiting friends and relatives at Neillsville for the past week, returned to our city Monday accompanied by Mrs. W. S. Tufts and daughter Etta, of that city. They are visiting Mrs. D. J’s mother, Mrs. Sarah Meek.

As will be seen in the Beaver items this week, F. H. Stabnaw, who recently bought a piece of land northeast of town lost nearly everything Sunday afternoon by fire, only their team, two cows and the clothes they had on being saved. A generous subscription is being raised for them by L. Wilcox so that they can get started again without too great delay or suffering. Mr. Stabnaw is a hard working and deserving man and this friendly "li ft" is well bestowed.

Between sixty and seventy attended the social Saturday evening, given by the Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavor. All seemed to have a pleasant time.

Levi Palmer and wife have gone to housekeeping in the rooms recently vacated by Rev. R. E. House.

Mrs. Phoebe Riehison left Monday for her home in Flandreau, S. D.

J. S. Green, representing the J. I Case Co. of Racine, was doing business with H. W. Hunt & Son this week.

F. M. Taylor and wife left for Neillsville yesterday where he will take treatment under Drs. Mattheson & Kennedy for rheumatism, while Mrs. T. will visit her people at the Falls.

Ed. Wollenberg made a business trip to Thorp Saturday evening. He says he saw Elder Hull, but we could not learn just in what connection.

Wednesday, Ernest Derby had J. L. Snyder, who is camped west of the river ready to make maple sugar, arraigned before Justice of the Peace Peterson charge with hunting deer out of season with dogs. The trial was by jury, with several witnesses testifying. The verdict was, "not guilty."

Martin Steinert and wife, from their farm northwest of Longwood, visited with Jacob Volk and family Wednesday.

G. W. Campbell came over from Marshfield Monday to look after logging interests.

Lew Meek won’t be out done by any of his neighbors and boasts of a new little girl, which was born to them Saturday morning about an hour later than W. H. Rossman’s little girl.

Wm. F. Fricke and family left via the Fairchild, Saturday for Billings, Mont., where they expect to take up their residence. Their friends here will be sorry to have them go.

Dr. Miller, dentist, who was to have been here the 12th, missed the train and was unable to reach here. He will be here without fail on Saturday, March 31st.

John Memhard is spending the week in Chicago with his family.

Rev. R. E. House preached his last sermon at the Baptist church last Sunday morning and the church is again without a pastor. It is not known yet where Mr. House will locate.

Dr. W. B. Cresswell will be in Greenwood hereafter the first ten days of every month. Better wait for him.
