Grabara, George (3 November 1901 - 13 September 1970)

George Grabara, Sr., 68, of Greenwood died Sunday morning in Neillsville, where he was admitted to Memorial Hospital August 31.

Mr. Grabara was born November 3, 1901, in Germany to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Grabara. He was married December 13, 1925, to Mary Hilgarth in Germany. They came to the United States in 1926 and settled in Kenosha. In 1933 they move to Milwaukee, where they lived until they came to Greenwood in 1948. They operated a locker plant here until 1950, when they opened the Greenwood Bakery and have operated it ever since. Mr. Grabara was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. William (Mary) Weis of Appleton and Mrs. Jerome (Elisebeth) Sowieja of Greenwood; a son, George, Jr., of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. William Jessel of Milwaukee and mr. Joseph Schmidt of South America; two half-sisters in Germany; and a brother, William Grabara of West Germany.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Hill Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Leander Koopman officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
